Since 2009, we have sponsored a local cycling team, known as Team Toachim. The team competes mainly in the South East Road Race League where we have achieved some impressive results, including a smattering of wins! For more information on the team, please visit the blog maintained by one of our members, Ciaran O’Grady. Ciaran can also be followed on Twitter if you are interested!
One of the team (Phil Anthony) has represented GB in the World Duathlon (run, bike, run) Championships, and has just been awarded an Elite start (i.e. starting at the same time as the world’s best runners) in the 2012 ondon marathon.
The team is also sponsored by the following companies, who help out in various ways:
Downland Cycles – a great bikeshop based in Canterbury
Torq Fitness- providers of energy drinks, gels and bars
Dave Hayward – official race photographer
Eye Level Optical – providers of pretty cool and effective eyewear
Ride captains and selected guests (eg Ian Wright) get together on Bank Holiday Monday for the L2P ride in June
Wet weekend of racing for the riders of PMR@Toachim House on 13th October 2013!
Mountain bike and Cyclocross
Neil Lomax decided to take his soaking in Frith Hill by taking part in the Gorrick Spring classic, a mountain bike race attracting some of the regions best riders.
He was initially relieved to see the rain has stopped shortly before the start but it did not hold off and before long the puddles were turning into streams! Despite this he managed to keep his bike under control to take 9th place.
Joe Sutton travelled all the way to Abergavenny to ride in the first race of the series for the British Cycling National Trophy Cyclo-Cross. This event draws the cream-of-the-crop of cyclocross talent and Joe put in a fantastic effort to take 9th place.
Ciaran O’Grady was another rider to brave the weather to race, taking part in the Finsbury Park Road Race. The 56-mile event had a full field of 60-entries. Ciaran put in a strong ride to take 4th place, his father Martin did not have such good luck and withdrew after puncturing.
The O’Grady family have not been short on success recently with Martin winning the C-category of Veteran Road Race Series. His teammate Sean O’Regan won the A-category. The league, which is sponsered by Toachim and MSTina, has provided riders with a full season of hotly contested racing.
Sam Bradford, Chris Bax and Bob Giles took part in the Kent ATTA 15-mile time trial held on the A20 at Harrietsham today (Sunday, 13 October).
First senior rider and third overall was 19-year-old Sam Bradford of PMR@Toachim House. Sam, who took 8th place in the Wigmore Hill Climb the previous week, returned a time of 34:22.
A great ride by Chris Bax of PMR@Toachim House saw him take the prize for 5th Vet on age Standard with +3.54. Bob Giles completed the deluged course in an impressive 40:28.
