Andrew’s Adventures
Each August, Andrew embarks on a week’s ‘holiday’ with a difference – 6 days cycling through the Alps or Pyrenees to raise funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind. Each trip involves around 400 miles with up to 15,000 meters of climbing – that’s almost twice as high as Mount Everest!!
This year will be the 10th Anniversary trip, and will mean that Andrew has raised over £15,000 for the charity. If you would like to sponsor him for this year’s trip, we would be delighted by your help. Please note that Andrew pays all the costs of the trip himself, so every penny donated will go to the charity.
Of course, what goes up must come down – there’s footage on YouTube of some of the participants descending a mountain filmed from a camera mounted on Andrew’s helmet. We hit over 50mph on some of the lower slopes!
In the past, Andrew has also raised cycled through Vietnam, Cambodia, Ecuador and Peru – all to raise funds for different charities.
In 2012, to mark his 50th birthday, Andrew will be cycling through Tibet to Everest base camp to raise funds for the Dogs Trust and Petsavers charities (to be confirmed). This is regarded as possibly the hardest cycling challenge in the world…
Cycling
Since 2009, we have sponsored a local cycling team, known as Team Toachim. The team competes mainly in the South East Road Race League where we have achieved some impressive results, including a smattering of wins! For more information on the team, please visit the blog maintained by one of our members, Ciaran O’Grady. Ciaran can also be followed on Twitter if you are interested!
